Message from the Mayor

You have another chance to help plan Windsor! We are embarking on a three day, very interactive planning process for our 4 mile long Old Redwood Highway corridor August 11 -13. Windsor's downtown was planned by residents who live here - now we need your input as we prepare a sustainable plan for Old Red that will last far into the future. You may wish it felt more safe for you or your children to bicycle or walk along Old Red. You may have thought it would be great to have services that you need along Old Red as it nears your neighborhood. You may be concerned about climate change, energy and water use, and you may have ideas about how to make Old Red more sustainable. Old Red is an artery for all of us. Now is your chance to help re-design Old Red for the future! You may join us for as much time as you can spare. Please watch this website: www.aiare.org with its link to the SDAT page for more details!

Town of Windsor

In Windsor, our focus since the Town's incorporation is to create and "pre-plan" our individual community, with a great deal of input from our residents, businesses, and landowners. Our first "vision" plans were for our Downtown and Shiloh Road areas, and from those plans, new development, to our liking, is occurring. These plans have made Windsor accordingly unique and so special.

We are now aware of aware of climate change impacts and we must plan our Town so that we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Since the Old Red corridor is such an important transportation artery in Windsor, we can create a vision plan for this corridor that will change how we move about, create a corridor where the auto is de-emphasized, create new shopping and service areas that provide our needs in Windsor, and provide business opportunities and jobs so more residents can work where we live. And just maybe, we could go to school, shop, and get to our new jobs without having to drive.

The Town applied for the Sustainable Design Assessment Team grant because we knew we could benefit from outside professional expertise. Our goal as a Town is to create a more "livable" Windsor – a Windsor that is more self sufficient and carbon neutral, in terms of transportation, energy, and water use.

Please join us as we embark on this exciting adventure! We are only one of 10 cities chosen nationwide for this program– and so we can lead the nation in the creative design of other corridors. Windsor – lead the way!
